Schools & Education Projects
Love Nepal places a great emphasis on education in Nepal. We have for many years been building schools in rural areas where prior to that time no facilities existed. Most children have access to educational facilities but for many they are a long distance from the villages in which they live. We have tried to build new facilities in these villages so that these children have a school closer to home. We also are aware that for many of these children, once their time at school is over, their families do not have the resources for the children to continue into higher education. We have projects in place to help finance some of the children that really need that help. Further education is more expensive and as such is a bigger drain on our resources
Schools
Back in the early 2000’s when we were first in the more remote areas of Nepal we were astounded at the distances children were travelling to go to school. It was not uncommon to see children walking two hours to school and a further two hours home again. Not only was it a great inconvenience for the children but there were instances of families keeping the children from school as they were needed to help out around the home. We set about raising funds to build schools in villages where they were most needed. In the years since that time we have gone on build fifteen schools and change the lives of many children for the better. The schools are reasonably simple structures usually compromising of four rooms, made up of three classrooms and a staff room.
It was great to be able to provide these educational facilities but it is another to keep and maintain them. Once the schools are built within a few years some form of maintenance is required. Our greatest challenge came in 2015 after the great earthquake which caused structural damage to all our school builds. We managed eventually to get them all back up and running. We are always looking for funding to help us with repairs. We are also always being requested to provide school facilities in villages we haven’t covered yet. School builds aren’t as cheap or straight forward to build as they once were since the earthquake but if its something you would be interested in doing then please let us know.
